Description

9th Grade Collection includes:

1. Literature and Writing: Level 4 Genre Survey

When it comes to language arts, much of the exceptional work that your students will accomplish is subjective in nature tied to their ideas. As we value these ideas—their discoveries from reading tied to their observations—and challenge them to catalog and craft these ideas over time, students will rise into the work of literary analysis with vim and vigor. This collection includes six novels that represent a genre survey of literature and six student journals:

    1. Eggs, Jerry Spinelli
    2. The Giver, Lois Lowry
    3. Homeless Bird, Gloria Whelan
    4. I, Juan de Pareja, Elizabeth Borton de Treviño
    5. The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton
    6. Skellig, David Almond

Each week, this core offering follows a similar weekly format with ample room for students to catalog their observations of characters, themes, symbols, and motifs. and bring shape to their ideas. They will catalog rich vocabulary unique to the story, and gather quotes that exemplify themes.  At the high school level, students craft a weekly synopsis and personal reflection of that week’s reading.  For the culminating assignment, students are offered a wide range of directives to choose from and are supported with a scaffolding upon which to craft their essay.
