Description

A Complete Fourth Grade Language Arts Curriculum

Everything you need for a fun and successful year of fourth grade language arts!

1. Literature and Writing: Level 2 Year Pack “D”

When it comes to learning language arts much of the exceptional work that your students will accomplish is subjective in nature tied to their ideas. As we value these ideas—their discoveries from reading tied to their observations—and challenge them to catalog and craft these ideas over time, literacy skills soar. This collection represents a range of genres and six student journals:

    • Charlotte’s Web
    • City of Ember
    • Fish in a Tree
    • Inside Out and Back Again
    • Loser
    • Love, Ruby Lavender

Each of the six units is designed to develop increased student competency in reading, and to develop voice and writing skills over time. Our Integrated Literature and Writing Discovery Guides are tied to exceptional classic and contemporary novels.  This level is structured to guide students into the art of reading and writing and thinking.

Because 4th grade students are growing competent in reading wonderfully complex stories, this collection includes Year Pack D and is just right for confident, Ready to Fly readers. This said, some children will need a bit more practice to become confident readers. Click here to explore alternative Year Packs to substitute in an A La Carte build-your-own collection.

Each week, this core  offering follows a similar weekly format with ample room for students to catalog their observations and bring shape to their ideas. Students will read and journal on character development, setting, and plot. They will explore rich vocabulary unique to the story, and will trace the plot more deeply as they answer comprehension questions with complete sentences. Students will craft their response to a prompt that is connected to the week’s reading and learn to move from a rough draft to a final, polished work. Each week culminates with a robust discussion.

Our 35 page Teacher Helps will give you all the guidance you need for success.

3. Storymaker “C”: Fun Stories Bundle

When staring at the blank page, it’s often the first sentence that is most difficult for students to tackle.  Storymaker, complete with story starters, setting & character flashcards, and object prompts, give them the support they need to create an exciting story hook that will get the writing started! An engaging hook—the very first sentence—is all that is needed to conquer writer’s block with the swish of a pencil.

4. One True Sentence “B”: Punctuation Bundle

The purpose of learning the parts of speech is to produce well-formed sentences that communicate clearly. And the best way to learn these is to provide opportunities for students to construct their own sentences within a framework. A sentence is simply a collection of words that conveys an idea. When well-crafted sentences are connected wisely, one after another, ideas grow wider and deeper. But without the basic tools of construction, the parts of speech, meaning and communication are lost.

An excellent opportunity over 25 weeks for elementary students to explore punctuation, construct sentences using all the right marks, and, in the process, marvel at the power of language!

    • Student workbook
      – With Teacher Guidelines and Student Worksheets
    • Punctuation: The Write Stuff
      – Supplemental book, A fun, practical, and memorable introduction to punctuation to be used alongside the workbook.

5. Operation Lexicon 4: Ted Hughes

A lexicon is the collected vocabulary of a person. Over the course of 25 weeks, students will explore a cluster of words from the lexicon of Ted Hughes. Using these words in an original way, with inspiration from favorites such as The Iron WolfThe Mermaid’s Purse, and Meet My Folks, will help the budding wordsmith recognize the plasticity of language and delight in its beauty.

6. Research Discovery: Significant People from History “B”

    • Ada Lovelace
    • Theodore Roosevelt
    • Temple Grandin
    • Fred Rogers

In 5 short weeks, your students will walk through the process of exploring the life of a significant person from history, culminating in the crafting of an original biographical essay. Supported every step of the way by our unique scaffolding to gather facts and catalog ideas, students, inspired by larger-than-life-people who have impacted the shaping of our world, will gain bird’s eye perspective of possibility. Each of the four units is accomplished in about an hour per week over 4 weeks—2 units in the fall, 2 units in the spring.
